What is a Domain?

A Domain is the address or URL (Uniform Resource Locator) of a particular Web site. This is also how you describe the portion of an email address following the @ symbol.

For example: visuex.com is our domain.

Domains are needed because they make it a lot easier for people to access your website and remember your company's name.

So which do you think is easiest to remember?

  1. YourBusiness.com
  2. or http://192.168.200.254/
  3. or http://www.hosting-company.com/clients/your_business/index.html

Standard Registration or Private Registration?

Protect your privacy for just $6.99 per domain, per year.

ICANN, the international governing body for domain names, requires every domain registrar to maintain a publicly viewable "WHOIS" database that displays personal contact information (including home addresses and phone numbers) for every registered domain.

But with Private Registration: We are able to provide customers with the option to keep all of their sensitive information out of the database by displaying our company information rather than your own personal data. Your personal information stays private while you maintain complete ownership and control of your domain.

* Additional ICANN fee of 18 cents per domain name per year. Certain TLD's only.

This mandatory fee is charged by ICANN (Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers: www.icann.org). and became effective on November 1, 2004. It is 18 cents per domain name registration year. Thus, the fee on a one year .com registration would be 18 cents. The fee would be $0.36 for a two year registration (i.e. 18 cents times 2). Additional years would be at 18 cents per year.

ICANN fees apply to
.com, .net, .org, .biz, .info, .name, .jobs, .mobi, and .asia.
